Theater Pécs
For the competition for the design of the Concert and Congress Centre Pécs (CCP) our office developed not only the architectural design but also a vision for the whole cultural area. This area or strip can justly be seen as an extension of the city centre.
The starting point for our vision of this area was to create unity between the different parts of the area and to realise a connection with Zsolnay, the cultural quarter. To make this area interesting for visitors it should have multiple qualities that make it attractive to visit and stay. Thereby the negative influences just outside the area, like the busy highway and the railway, had to be dealt with in our plan.
Centrally located in the building is the concert hall. The volume of the concert also shows itself on the outside of the building. Next to the concert hall are the foyers. Against this foyers two wings have been created. One wing contains the offices, conference rooms and rehearsal areas. The other wing features the restaurant and an extra concert hall. The two wings create a large square in front of the entrance. The building opens itself towards the park area.
