The Europe District is a large area of Haarlem, built in the sixties. This neighbourhood is situated near a major transport artery of Haarlem, the Europaweg. The building is located in the bend of the road and at a walking distance from the ‘Englandpark’ and the mall. Much attention is given to the urban integration in this area.

The aim was to place a strong landmark, shaped like an angle section, at this important point in the area. The mass and height fit into the structure and the scale of the surrounding buildings. The mass respects the church west of the building. The height and the tilting wall sections emphasize the large curve. The entrance is on the north side of the building accessible from a square that covers a semi-underground car park. The ground floor houses office space (approximately 1000 m2). The large wide stairs and ramps are a nice transition to the surroundings. Properties with large terraces to the south are oriented at the park with its water and square.

The building also houses a living community which has its facilities situated near the square. The building is designed as a powerful brick sculpture which is in contrast with the monotonous blocks cell structure in the neighbourhood.
