Apartments Westeraam

"A building should be fun and pleasant to live in'

Solid blocks
In the Central Zone of the neighbourhood Westeraam in Elst our office has developed two urban villas. Each building houses nineteen rental apartments. There is an underground parking garage. The buildings are slightly rotated so that it appears they fan out and stand free in the countryside. They are placed in the water. The concept was two solid blocks with chunks missing where necessary. Concrete frames playfully accent the entrance and bay windows.

Diversity in supply

By request of the client there is diversity in sizes of the apartments. The most favourable lying dwelling is the biggest. Common features are a large living room with a kitchen and two bedrooms. We have not only taken into account the principles of the client. We have also placed the balconies and terraces in such a way that maximum sight lines are created, that they are all south facing, that there is a gradual entrance, that the entrance to the underground parking is logically located and that each apartment is logically, comfortably and beautifully designed. Furthermore the design and materials of the buildings will endure for decades. Many apartments have a loggia on the corner, which enriches the space, creates natural shade and strengthens the concept. The entrance is also an important part of the design. Residents and visitors walk along the water on a sloping path. They gradually approach the entrance and experience the water. The forecourt is therefore an important part of the design. Thus the main entrance receives the atmosphere of an entrance porch.

Twins
The buildings are similar, but differ in details. No repetition, but subtle differences. They are twins, but each with its own identity. Each building has its own colour of metallic panels. The glued panels contrast with the warm brick; a pronounced colour with a beautiful structure. This gives each building it's own identity.
