Masterplan Timisoara

Timisoara - a city of about 320,000 inhabitants, known for the uprising in 1989 - requires a development plan for the next 25 years. The masterplan is also needed to apply for EU funds. Our office develops this plan together with Eurodite srl in Bucharest. Together we will lead a Romanian team and offer assistence in creating a long term vision for the town.

Timisoara is the fourth city of the country and after Bucharest the second city in economical growth. It is a city in transition with an old historic city centre, also known as 'little Vienna'. The town deals, as many other Romanian cities, with urban problems in the field of traffic, enviroment and neglected industrial areas situated in or nearby the city centre.

In November 2009 we have completed a Preliminary Urban Plan. This Preliminary Urban Plan has three objectives. It provides a framework for future developments to create spatial and functional coherence in the area. It is also a means retaining a hold of the direction over a long-term and complex area development; it is a municipal reference document for any urban development action that will take place in the Metropolitan Area, for instance for judicial examination. Communication is the third objective of the plan. It helps to communicate between all people that are concerned in the region. It makes clear to all what the direction is for the spatial development.

The preliminary Urban Plan contains analyses of the historic and especially the current situation in maps and explaining texts. Reconnaissance was done of the historic situation, traffic and transport, the different functions and the spatial situation on different scale levels. A SWOT (strong, weak, opportunities, threats) was made and together with the identity of the city a concept was created per theme. These concepts together resulted in the Integrated Urban Concept with 10 key issues.
At a later stage a Plan Urban General will be created, based on the Preliminary Urban Plan.
