Housing Grote Rieteiland, IJburg
The 22 houses are located on the north bank of the Grote Rieteiland in the district IJburg. The residential blocks are designed as large villas where two houses have been included. This design provides a new appearance for an atypical two house building. The quality of living for residents and the environment was central to the task. By careful positioning of the functions, openings and outdoor areas the house is related to sunlight and water orientation. The position between the blocks is such that transparency from the street to the water is guaranteed.
The entrance is designed on one side of the house, making room for a garage and dining room on the street side. The kitchen is situated in the middle of the house. The lounge, located on the waterfront terrace and stretches out over the full width of the house. The big glass doors provide light deep into the house. The terrace on the first floor are, due to the asymmetrical design of the plan, located on the street or the waterfront.
The basis for the building facade is a smooth line, wood materialized, that connects the two houses together. The volume enclosed is, in contrast with the wood, in a light color.
