Offices and hotels at Budapest airport
Commissioned by Budapest Airport we have designed a multifunctional building complex at the Airport of Budapest. The design was developed in collaboration with Óbuda Architect Studio Ltd.
Air traffic will presumably increase across the region. The airport has a great potential for further route developments and great growth potential for both aviation and non-aviation business. Active and fast business would strengthen the airport’s position in the growing competition. So the aim is to restructure business activities and get the airport and its infrastructure ready for the future. At the core of all activities is the expansion and modernization program. The location of the development (Cluster F3) is just 5 minutes from the Ferihegy Terminal 2, where other future projects are under consideration, like the Airport city with 4 star hotel and parking functions, a new Cargo City and a future rail-line coming from Budapest. The plot size is 37.200 m2.
The project includes approximately 75.000 m2 offices, hotels and car parks and is directly connected to the terminals of the airport. The basic concept idea was to provide healthy, green surroundings and good atmosphere for the future office users, and meanwhile to create easily changeable flexible arrangement. In this project much attention is paid on sustainability in design, materials and equipment. The building’s supporting structure will ensure the prevailing possibility of establishing the most flexible floor plan possible, also including individual needs that may arise later on during use.
The conceptual plan was designed according to the currently binding regulation plans. In case of Cluster F3 there is no need to extend the density or make any significant change in the regulation plan. There were several alternative solutions examined, considering the main directions arriving from Budapest or from the airport. A higher, curved building is the ‘entrance’ of the area, and from here the main pedestrian route leads in the green inner world. The orientation of the office wings and the healthy distances between them is also crucial aspects of the design.
