Community centre de Kiem
For this project we made a design for the expansion of an existing community center in 's- Gravenzande. We analyzed and modified the existing layout of the building. The facades have been updated and modernized.
The originally introvert building has been opened up by a huge glass wall that shows the new foyer on the front side of the building. This foyer is separated from the new auditorium by sliding doors. These walls make it possible to join the different spaces. This flexibility was important to the client to be able to accommodate 100, 400 or 600 people simultaneously.
At the rear the auditorium is overlooking the garden. The roof of the auditorium seems to float above the space due to the light glass strip under the roof and the large wooden beams supporting the roof. Small openings in one of the walls provide a light show in the room. The auditorium is neutral and contemporary in design and gets its character from the wooden beams and the light.
